Westminster Abbey

I used the company cab for this journey when I made the decision to visit Westminster Abbey, and the trip was enjoyable. and the location Was a great place to travel to! I had no idea that this place had as much history as it did. There are numerous connections to both British religious history and British history more broadly. Additionally, there are connections to important figures who have influenced science, literature, and the arts over the past few centuries. It was also very helpful to get a more in-depth look at some of the statues, memorials, and other sites to see during your visit thanks to the free audio guide that came with your tour. We've been there before, but this time we had more time, so we took advantage of the audio tour. The amount of history is astounding, and the audio guide is basically required.

The Queens Diamond Jubilee Gallery, which cost extra and I believe was £4, was also a highlight of the trip for me. Both the exhibition itself and the views are breathtaking. Since we had taken a company cab to London, we took advantage of the 2 for 1 day out a deal and paid half price to enter the Abbey. Details are available on the majority of company websites, but you must print the voucher ahead of time and have your return cab reservation with you. a beautiful, historic structure that is home to the graves and monuments of many famous British figures, including Edward the Confessional, Henry VII, Elizabeth I, Mary Queen of Scots, and their rival.

Since visiting the Abbey is expensive and it opens at 9:30, it is best to go before it gets crowded and difficult to move around and take the photos you want. The structure itself is a magnificent medieval Gothic church with some elements that are even older. A fascinating three-dimensional encyclopedia of British history can be found among the enormous collection of tombs, statues, and other monuments. Even more noteworthy events have taken place at this royal church.

On the spot, the Saxons erected a church in the early 700s in honor of Saint Peter. That church evolved into a tiny Benedictine abbey around 960. The West Minster Abbey was erected by Edward, the last Saxon king, in the middle of the 1st century. In addition, he constructed the first Palace of Westminster in 1065. All that is left of that structure is the Pyx Chamber, the Undercroft, and the oldest door in Great Britain. King Henry III constructed the current Gothic-style abbey in the 1200s as a more opulent replacement. The two towers by the Great West Door date from the 1700s, and the Henry VII Lady Chapel was added in the 1500s. Interpretive signs at the nearby medieval Jewel Tower demonstrate how the old palace and the abbey operated as one location without a busy street separating them. The Great North Door, where intricate carvings and gargoyles set the medieval scene, welcomes visitors to the abbey.
